POLAR Movement

Disclaimer: no views, logos or media featured or otherwise expressed in this piece necessarily represent that of their rightful owners (PETA, Extinction Rebellion, Anti-Speciesist Collective, VICE news, and so on.) This piece depicts a speculative and entirely fictional future, chronicling the origins, spread, and response to a heavily ideological movement calling itself “POLAR”, (People’s Organisation for Liberation and Rehabilitation). The fictitious movement was heavily based on organisations such as Extinction Rebellion and the Canberra-based Anti-Speciesist Collective. Starting in early 2036, the movement is incepted in response to another season of freak bushfires in Australia that are directly linked by CSIRO to animal agriculture practices. POLAR campaigns for an effective response to climate change on both an individual and legislative level, and believes the most effective means of reducing further climate and habitat destruction is by adopting a vegan diet.

Identity

POLAR’s logo image of an animal exchanging a “handshake” with a human is used across all designs. Design choices for the POLAR content were made to be relatively aggressive in their approach - a very bold and impactful font was chosen (Titling Gothic extended black) and a high-contrast, high-impact colour scheme of exclusively black, white and red. The branding of the movement makes large use of heavyweight and extended typography with dramatic contrast and red highlights.
